“I recently heard a news commentator state that the average life of a business is 11 years. That caught my attention because at DCI we have passed that milestone well over three times so far.
So what makes us the exception to that rule? I think it is a combination of things: a broad base of related products and services, a staff that is knowledgeable and committed to customer service and a management that is fiscally conservative yet willing to make aggressive marketing moves.
About 15 years ago, I attended a pre-construction job meeting on a major project we were about to begin in Seattle. The project manager for the Electrical Contractor opened with the statement, “It would be nice if we could all get paid now and go home but I don’t think that is going to happen. We are going to be required to perform.”
By that he meant we would need to provide our mutual customer with the products they had contracted to receive, install them properly, and do it within a time frame that was acceptable. Seems simple enough but sometimes it can be very difficult to accomplish.
Our success now is built on many years of accomplishing those seemingly simple tasks over and over again. We know it is important our customers understand the capabilities and limitations of the systems we design and propose. It is all about meeting expectations’. Satisfied customers will come back again and again as well as recommend us to their friends and colleagues. This is how we have built our business over the past 38 years. I feel very fortunate to live where I live, do what I love, and work with people who care.”
